PIDC Starts 14MW Combustion Turbine Generator Project for MATEP

For over ten (10 years) PIDC has undertaken numerous projects for the Medical Area Total Energy Plant (MATEP), located in Boston, MA. MATEP serves the energy needs for the Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LWA). Seventy four buildings occupying 12 million square feet of space within the LMA’s 213 acre campus rely on MATEP for the energy demands of their mission critical activities. MATEP provides steam, electricity and chilled water to five major hospitals with more than 2,000 beds serving more than 100,000 inpatients and 2.4 million outpatients each year as well as the Harvard Institutes of Medicine. Numerous medical research centers and teaching institutions are also located in the LMA.

PIDC is acting as the construction manager and contractor for the 14MW dual fuel Solar Turbine project, including Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and Fuel Gas Compressor (FGC). The project includes significant enabling work, structural work, complex rigging activities, piping, power and control system work. PIDC is responsible for procurement, expediting, construction, installation, start up and commissioning of the project. The project is targeted for substantial completion in June 2017.
